My wonderful boy, Scooby, passed away peacefully on Friday, 24th May, 2024, aged 30 years.
Scooby looked after me for nearly 28 years. Richard and I were there at the end and stayed with him until he was taken away.
It was peaceful and quiet when he passed and a calm, spring day, with birds singing and the signs of new growth everywhere. It was just the day that I wanted for him.
As a tribute to him, my husband bought me a stock pin with his black and white mane hair woven into it.
I now, proudly wear this in the show ring when I’m showing my other horses, so that Scooby is always with me.
I’ve written him a poem to commemorate how much he meant to me and still does. I read him his poem when we waited with him to be collected. His ashes will return to his home to be scattered here, a home that he loved.
‘Oh my beautiful horse with your big kind eye,
We’ve shared nearly 28 years, you and I,
And every Birthday for you I would make,
Your very favourite apple cake,
Scooby, you had a true heart of gold,
You were big and brave and strong and bold,
You looked after me on our numerous hacks,
With the wind in your mane and the sun on our backs,
You stunned everybody at show after show,
With your glistening feathers as white as snow,
You gave me more than I’ll ever deserve,
You nurtured me and calmed my nerve,
We jumped and we galloped as you ran free,
I treasured that time of you and me,
But today I had to let you go,
Such pain I feel and such sorrow,
For it was your time to take your leave,
Now I remain here and for you I grieve,
But I am so lucky to have shared so many years,
With one phenomenal horse for whom I now cry tears,
Good Bye My Scooby, God Bless You So,
As Over The Rainbow Bridge, Today, You Go.
Lots of Love to Scooby from Jayne. XXX
